an essential pillar for developing treated wastewater reuse systems that are safe, sustainable, and adapted to local territories. However, its development implies rigorous control of health and environmental risks as well as close coordination between the various stakeholders involved in the reuse chain.<br\/>Health safety is addressed at the scale of the entire system: wastewater treatment, storage, transport, irrigation practices, crop choices, working conditions, handling of agricultural products, and consumer exposure. This systemic approach leads to combining several risk reduction measures according to the characteristics of each situation.<br\/>The multi-barrier approach, promoted notably by the World Health Organization, provides a framework for designing this combination of measures. Barriers can relate to water treatment, irrigation techniques, agricultural practices, the organization of uses, or measures applied after harvest. Their association makes it possible to achieve health protection objectives while taking into account the uses, the exposed populations, and the specific characteristics of each territory.<br\/>COSTEA&#8217;s training sessions thus contribute to developing a common culture of risk management between the water, sanitation, agriculture, health, environment, and training sectors. They also promote the adoption of methods that translate REUSE principles into operational systems adapted to national and local realities.
