COSTEA is a think tank dedicated to water for food in the face of climate change challenges. It brings together an international community for reflection and action, comprising experts, scientists, agricultural water managers, project owners, public officials, and technical and financial partners.
It aims to produce, share, and promote knowledge and public policy recommendations to address the challenges of irrigated agriculture.
Our Conviction
“Rethinking water for food in the face of climate change”
02
Our community currently numbers approximately 800 members and comprises all individuals who have participated in or been closely or remotely involved in at least one of our activities.
It brings together French and international irrigation stakeholders, including consulting firms, research institutions, institutional actors, and civil society. Our four areas of action: West Africa, Southeast Asia, Maghreb/Mediterranean, and Latin America, are primarily represented internationally.
03
COSTEA is convinced that the challenges of water for food can only be met by collectively rethinking irrigated systems. In the face of climate change, dwindling water resources, and transformations in agricultural territories, it produces knowledge, fosters dialogue among stakeholders, and supports the development of more sustainable public policies.
04
The project ownership of COSTEA is the responsibility of Eau Agriculture et Territoires (formerly AFEID).
Its collective governance is based on three complementary bodies that ensure its strategic direction, scientific coordination, and operational functioning.
05
COSTEA’s actions are primarily deployed in Sub-Saharan Africa, the Mediterranean region, and Southeast Asia. They involve ministries, research organizations, universities, agricultural water managers, professional organizations, producers, and numerous technical and financial partners.
